Estate Planning With a Multi-Generational Focus

After more than 40 years helping families and businesses overcome obstacles, work together and chart courses to achieve lasting multi-generational legacies, attorney Tom Walker founded Generations Law Group to establish and maintain long-term relationships with each of our clients instead of ones built on one or two transactions. To that end, we work every day to deliver our legal services efficiently in a supportive, empathetic environment. We create, implement and continually improve an array of systems and services to meet the needs of our clients and assist them in reaping the enormous potential of multigenerational wealth.

We draw upon our experience to counsel clients on business, trust and estate planning and transactions, elder law, family wealth transfer and preservation planning, charitable giving, retirement distribution planning, and trust and estate administration.

The lawyers in our firm are members of WealthCounsel® and ElderCounsel®, organizations of thousands of trust, estate business planning and elder law attorneys located in all 50 states. We exchange valuable information daily through our active list serve. So, when anyone has a unique or difficult issue, usually someone on the list serve has dealt with a similar problem in the past. So we have ready access to several thousand seasoned legal minds to supplement our practice experience.

Over the years, we have found that most people want the same things for themselves, their spouses, their children, and grandchildren.

For Themselves—Protection and Control. They want control over their assets and health care decisions. They want financial security. They want protection from the risks of life, which include identity theft, lawsuits, disability and the cost of long-term care. They want to avoid probate and the attendant disclosure of their assets in public records. Some have philanthropic goals.

For Their Surviving Spouse—Financial Security. They want to know that their hard-earned assets will not pass to a new spouse.

For Their Children and Grandchildren—An Education and Financial Security, including Asset Protection from Immaturity, Divorce, and Lawsuits. They want their family members to live successful lives that include a work ethic, integrity, faith, and appreciation and respect for family members. Above all, they want their family members to love each other, spend time together and avoid conflict. They do not want them to be harmed by the wealth left to them. This is often far more important than tax planning.

These needs are timeless. No Congress can legislate them away. The solutions we deliver to our clients are enduring because we design a client’s planning to meet their goals. And, we monitor their plans through our Client Care and Company Shield maintenance programs.

We help our clients ensure their property goes to whom they want, the way they want, when they want and minimize the impact of taxes, professional fees, and court costs. And, we help them keep control of their property while they are alive and healthy and provide for them and their loved ones if they become disabled.

Our Attorneys

Tom Walker, J.D., LL.M.

For more than 40 years, I have helped families, and businesses overcome obstacles, work together and chart courses to achieve lasting multi-generational legacies.

My entry into the legal profession was impetuous: On a whim, I decided to pursue a career in law, attended the University of Idaho year-round to obtain my Juris Doctor degree, and then continued my legal education at the University of Miami focusing on income and estate tax law. The long-ago snap decision grew into a passion that has lasted my entire life.

I believe establishing and maintaining long-term relationships is the key to serving clients and their families. To that end, I work every day to deliver legal services efficiently in a supportive, empathetic environment. My colleagues and I create, implement and continually improve an array of systems and services to meet the needs of our clients and assist them in reaping the enormous potential of multigenerational wealth.

I draw upon my experience to counsel clients on business, trust and estate planning and transactions, elder law, family wealth transfer and preservation planning, charitable giving, retirement distribution planning, and trust and estate administration.

I am a member of WealthCounsel® and ElderCounsel®, organizations of thousands of trust, estate business planning, and elder law attorneys located in all 50 states. We exchange valuable information daily through our active list serves. So, when anyone has a unique or complicated issue, usually someone on the list serve has dealt with a similar problem in the past. Tom's Professional Credentials

Matthew Wolfe, J.D., LL.M.

I joined Generations Law Group with the goal of helping individuals and families preserve the wealth they have worked had to earn during their life.  Since watching my own family members lose their life savings on their long term medical costs, I have known I wanted to help others avoid the same fate.  I received my J.D from Concordia University School of Law in Boise, Idaho; and then received my LL.M. in Taxation from Boston University School of Law.

During law school, I worked as an extern for the Idaho Fourth Judicial District Court, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho.  During my LL.M. program, I volunteered at Veteran’s Legal Services.

I am a Veteran of the Army National Guard.  Before law school, I was an Intelligence Analyst for approximately ten years.  This work took my to Guantanamo Bay, Hawaii, Washington DC, and Kuwait. During this time I completed my undergrad degree in Business Administration from the American Military University.

In addition to his work, I volunteer at numerous legal clinics throughout Boise.  Additionally, I judge We the People competitions and High School Mock Trial.  Outside of the law, I like to hike in the foothills with my family.  In my free time I am an avid golfer.
